Short Circuit

PUZZLE#17
PLAYED ON

What is Short Circuit?

An unintended, low-resistance path in a circuit that lets current flow somewhere it was never designed to go, bypassing the intended load entirely. Because that unintended path usually offers far less resistance than the circuit was designed for, current can surge dramatically — which is exactly why fuses and circuit breakers exist to cut it off before real damage occurs.

The five clues

Engineerdle #17 described Short Circuit with five clues, revealed one at a time from hardest to most direct. Each clue points at a different property of the concept.

  1. 01An electrical fault defined by what current isn't doing, not what it is.
  2. 02Current takes a path it was never intended to take.
  3. 03That unintended path usually offers far less resistance than the intended one.
  4. 04The result is often a sudden, dangerous surge in current.
  5. 05An unintended low-resistance connection in a circuit that causes excessive current to flow.
