LC Resonant Circuit
What is LC Resonant Circuit?
A circuit built from an inductor and a capacitor together, in which energy oscillates back and forth between the inductor's magnetic field and the capacitor's electric field at a natural resonant frequency. In an ideal, lossless circuit that oscillation would continue forever; real circuits always have some resistance that eventually damps it out.
The five clues
Engineerdle #37 described LC Resonant Circuit with five clues, revealed one at a time from hardest to most direct. Each clue points at a different property of the concept.
- 01Two energy-storing components, taking turns.
- 02Energy sloshes back and forth between a magnetic field and an electric field.
- 03Left undriven and lossless, it would oscillate forever at one specific frequency.
- 04Radio tuners once relied entirely on one to select a station.
- 05f = 1/(2π√LC) — the natural resonant frequency of an inductor and capacitor connected together.
