PUZZLE#2
PLAYED ON

What is Newton's Third Law?

Every force one body exerts on a second body is matched by an equal and opposite force the second exerts back on the first. The two forces act on different objects, which is why they never cancel out despite being equal and opposite.

The five clues

Engineerdle #2 described Newton's Third Law with five clues, revealed one at a time from hardest to most direct. Each clue points at a different property of the concept.

  1. 01One of three laws written down in a single work in 1687.
  2. 02It concerns pairs, not single objects.
  3. 03Push on a wall and the wall pushes back exactly as hard.
  4. 04It's why a rocket moves forward by throwing exhaust backward.
  5. 05For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
