Electrical Engineering · Puzzle #7
Capacitor
What is Capacitor?
A component that stores electrical energy as an electric field between two conductive plates separated by an insulator, with capacitance defined as charge stored per volt applied. It opposes sudden changes in voltage across itself, which is why it blocks steady DC once fully charged but passes AC signals readily.
The five clues
Engineerdle #7 described Capacitor with five clues, revealed one at a time from hardest to most direct. Each clue points at a different property of the concept.
- 01A component that stores energy in an electric field, not a magnetic one.
- 02Two conductive plates, separated by an insulator.
- 03It opposes sudden changes in voltage across itself.
- 04It blocks steady DC once fully charged, but passes AC readily.
- 05A component storing electrical energy as an electric field between two conductive plates, C = Q/V.
