Environmental Engineering · Puzzle #30
Water Treatment
What is Water Treatment?
The multi-stage process of removing contaminants from water — typically settling out large particles, filtering the rest, and disinfecting with chlorine or UV light — to make it safe for drinking or environmental discharge. Skipping or under-designing any one stage can leave contaminants that the later stages were never intended to handle alone.
The five clues
Engineerdle #30 described Water Treatment with five clues, revealed one at a time from hardest to most direct. Each clue points at a different property of the concept.
- 01A multi-stage process turning something unfit to drink into something safe.
- 02Large particles settle out first, before anything more sophisticated happens.
- 03Filtration removes what settling alone leaves behind.
- 04A final disinfection step, often chlorine, kills off anything still remaining.
- 05The multi-stage process of removing contaminants from water to make it safe for drinking or discharge.
A new engineering concept every day: five clues, five guesses. How early can you name it?
