Electromagnetics · Puzzle #65
Antenna
What is Antenna?
A device that converts an electrical signal into radio waves for transmission, or radio waves back into an electrical signal on reception. Its physical length is typically tuned to the wavelength of the signal it's built to handle.
The five clues
Engineerdle #65 described Antenna with five clues, revealed one at a time from hardest to most direct. Each clue points at a different property of the concept.
- 01A component that converts between two forms of energy: electrical signals and radio waves.
- 02Its physical length is often tuned to match the wavelength it's meant to send or receive.
- 03Cut a car's roof-mounted one off, and reception noticeably suffers.
- 04Every radio, phone, and Wi-Fi router relies on one, even if it's hidden inside the case.
- 05The device that converts electrical signals into radio waves, or radio waves back into electrical signals.
A new engineering concept every day: five clues, five guesses. How early can you name it?
